Nature-based tourism

The Eastern Arc mountains are home to a plethora of rare and endangered wildlife, and are becoming increasingly popular amongst tourists interested in experiencing wildlife and nature.

This module focuses on understanding the current magnitude of nature-based tourism in the Eastern Arc mountains, modelling potential levels, and estimating the value to Tanzania.

Existing data on nature-based tourism in the Eastern Arc has already been assembled. Primary data collection is currently underway through dedicated Masters projects to establish the numbers of nature-based tourists visiting the region and associated revenues.

The work is being led by the Sokoine University of Agriculture and the University of East Anglia in the UK.
